Attach files and images to chat

Send files with a prompt and open file attachments from an agent’s reply.

You can attach files to a chat prompt, and an agent can include files with its reply. Supported images appear inline; other attachments open with your system’s file handler.

Add and open attachments

  1. Open an agent’s chat and use the prompt composer’s attachment control to add files.
  2. Review the attachment chips, then send the prompt.
  3. To open a non-image file from an agent reply, select its attachment card.
NotePNG, JPEG, GIF, and WebP images can render inline. Agents can also attach files with mao say --file or mao say --attach.
LimitA message supports up to 8 files, each up to 25 MiB. HEIC files are refused. Chat history is compacted after it reaches 16 MiB and reduced to 12 MiB.
