# Run a shell or agent

Start a shell or supported coding agent in a terminal node.

Terminal nodes run a shell or supported coding-agent command in the project directory. Choose a preset, configure it, and place the node on the canvas.

## Start a terminal or agent

1. Choose **New terminal or agent** from the tool rail, or press <kbd>Ctrl</kbd> + <kbd>T</kbd> on Windows or Linux, or <kbd>Cmd</kbd> + <kbd>T</kbd> on macOS.
2. In the setup sheet, choose **Shell**, a provider preset, or **Custom**.
3. Review the launch settings, finish setup, and place the node.

> **Tip:** Agent sign-in and model selection stay in the provider’s own account and configuration.

> **Limit:** MAO launches an explicit program and argument list in the project root. Custom commands are not passed through a shell.
