# Create a worktree layer

Make an isolated Git worktree and canvas state for parallel work.

A layer gives parallel work its own Git worktree and canvas state. You can create one from the navigator’s layer rail.

## Create a layer

1. Open the navigator and choose **New layer** in the layer rail.
2. Enter a layer name and branch name in the sheet.
3. If you want a starting layout, choose the option to copy the Ground layout.
4. Finish the sheet to create the layer.

> **Note:** Creating a layer does not switch the canvas to it. Choose the layer in the rail when you are ready to work there.

> **Limit:** Copied nodes receive new IDs and begin as drafts. Permission-bypass launch options are not copied.
