# Pan, zoom, and fit the canvas

Move around the canvas and quickly frame all nodes or the current selection.

Pan and zoom to move around a large canvas, then fit the whole layout or just a selection into view. For the zoom controls and minimap, see [Pan and zoom the canvas](https://trymao.dev/docs/canvas-basics/canvas-pan-zoom).

## Frame the canvas

1. Drag an empty area of the canvas to pan.
2. Use the **−** and **+** controls by the zoom percentage, or use the mouse wheel or trackpad to zoom.
3. Press <kbd>Shift</kbd> + <kbd>1</kbd> to fit all nodes. Press <kbd>Shift</kbd> + <kbd>2</kbd> to fit the current selection.
4. You can also open the command palette and choose **Fit all**.

> **Tip:** Hold <kbd>Ctrl</kbd> while scrolling on Windows or Linux, or <kbd>Cmd</kbd> on macOS, to zoom the canvas around a focused terminal.

> **Limit:** A terminal with keyboard focus receives its own wheel and keys. Panning, zooming, and fitting do not create undo steps.
